ElfYourself is a fun multimedia application developed by JibJab. It is a video editing software that lets you and four others star in a Christmas-themed personalized dance video. Free to download and easy to use, this app offers pre-made augmented reality filters that you can apply to spread holiday cheer. It even allows you to share the videos you make on your social media profiles. Be warned, though. This app comes with a few drawbacks that can be a bit of a deal-breaker.

Star in a short Christmas video

While it is categorized as a video editor, ElfYourself does not work like the usual apps of the same genre. In fact, it does not require you to shoot a video of yourself. It only needs you to take a picture and apply it to the pre-made videos that this app offers. Upon launching, you will need to choose a picture from your gallery or take a new one with the built-in camera. You can also choose from the photos you uploaded on Facebook and Instagram. There is also a My Faces library, which stores up to 20 of your previously-uploaded or captured pictures.

Once you have selected the photo, you can then position your face to fit the pre-provided elf image. As noted, you can add up to five elves in your video, or you can go solo. To create the video, you only need to click the Let’s Dance button. There are 19 songs in the app that your elves can dance to, which are a mix of pop and Christmas tunes. However, only two of the songs are free. The rest is only available upon purchase—either by bulk or one-by-one.

The Let’s Dance page has a preview, allowing you to see how the video will look before uploading. From there, you have the option to save them in your gallery or share them on Facebook, Twitter, and even YouTube. You can also attach them to an email and send it to your friends. Fair warning, processing your videos take ages. More so, the dance videos only show 2D elves with your faces on them. The app does not allow you to edit the pre-made videos.

Fun for a short while

ElfYourself is a fun app as it allows you to create Christmas short videos with a few taps. However, the fun is short-lived. There is nothing much to do in it aside from attaching your face to elves dancing to some tunes. It does not allow you to create and even edit the video. The video quality is also not that great. On top of that, you can only use this app during the holidays. All in all, there are free video apps that work better than this.
