Free seasonal video app
ElfYourself is a free video editing app that, funnily enough, lets you and four others merge your faces on a band of merry and jolly dancing elves to spread the holiday joy. It’s a fun app to use to spread the Christmas spirit, since you can share the videos you’ve captured on social media for friends and family to see.
Despite being a multimedia app, ElfYourself is accessed on browsers, and is easy to use with its collection of augmented reality filters. However, it’s only available during the holiday season, and you won’t be able to access it after that.
Joyfully dance like an elf
ElfYourself’s interface is simple to understand. Once you’ve opened the app, you can choose to take a photo of yourself or upload one from your gallery. For those who want to use a picture of themselves from their Facebook or Instagram accounts, they can also do so if they wish. If you’ve previously uploaded a photo, you can open the My Faces library to see all your recently used pictures.
Once you have a clear photo of your face, you can then position it to your liking, and then choose to go solo or add up to 5 elves. There’s quite a selection of songs to pick from after pressing “Let’s Dance”—mostly popular Christmas hits—so just go with one that suits your personal taste. Not all dances are free, however, and you’ll have to buy those that are locked.
In the “Let’s Dance” page, you can preview all the selections you’ve made—including the whole dance sequence with your face on it—before finalizing it. Once you’re happy with how it turned out, you can save the whole video and then share it online through your social media accounts. A word of warning, though: the app’s video processing takes a long time to finish.
Fun but lacks additional features
Overall, ElfYourself has what you can expect from a video editing app, like applying filters and inserting songs, but that’s all there is to it. The app lacks eye-catching features that can make it stand out from the rest. All you can do is apply your face to a dancing elf and choose a song, and you can pretty much call it a day after that.
